Cougar sightings in Gold Creek

WildSafeBC Kimberley-Cranbrook July 4 reported a cougar has been observed in the Gold Creek area near 42nd Ave S twice in the last week, on  Thursday, June 29 and Sunday, July 4.

“It is important to note that cougars may prey on pets and it is important to keep them indoors, especially at night. Avoid feeding or attracting other wild animals that may be prey for cougars.

Fallen seed from bird feeders can attract rodents, which are potential prey for cougars. Deer should never be fed or allowed to establish in urban communities as they are primary prey for cougars,” WildSafeBC advised.

“Once deer become established, it can be very challenging to encourage them to move on.”
