From July 26 to July 28, City of Cranbrook contractor Living Tree Environmental Limited (Living Tree) will be working across Cranbrook to complete Dutch Elm Disease (DED) surveillance activities.

DED is spread to elm trees in British Columbia by several species of elm bark beetles via beetle flights, improperly sanitized pruning tools, movement of elm firewood and root grafting.

The goal of Living Tree is to help identify all DED symptomatic elm trees and detect all elm firewood/branches on all public and private lands within the municipality, with collection of branch samples when possible and safe to do so.

Living Tree personnel will acquire permission from landowners and/or community officials before entering private property for both elm branch collection/tree analysis and violation verification. Your cooperation is essential for the completion of a thorough survey and the effective management of this disease.
