Free your vote in Kootenay-Columbia

Letter to the Editor

OneĀ day before the election, there is no clear leader in Kootenay-Columbia.

Some outdated polls touted on the social media circuit put the NDP and Conservatives in a deadlock here.

But the latest BC polls show NDP and Conservative support slipping behind the Liberals while the Greens are gaining serious ground.

ā€œThe Green Party is at 19 points in British Columbia and could offer up some surprises on Monday,ā€ EKOS pollsters said last week in releasing their October 10-12 results.

So what does this mean for the very sizeable chunk of undecided voters in Kootenay-Columbia?

It frees your vote. People no longer need to vote out of fear. They can vote with courage for the party and the candidate that best represent their personal vision and values.

Our canvassing shows a solid core of Green support while the NDP are in freeā€fall nationally and trending downward locally. We are definitely in contention.

As for the Conservatives, they have defeated themselves with their inflammatory rhetoric promoting divisiveness and intolerance. Who gets elected in Kootenay-Columbia could come down to those undecided voters who are still wavering between the progressive parties.

Green Party leader Elizabeth May is already proposing a cooperative coalition in Ottawa between her, Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair. No one will cooperate with Stephen Harper so the prospects for a Conservative minority government are nil.

The Green Partyā€™s policies on fiscal responsibility, poverty reduction, transitioning to a post-carbon economy and reconciliation with First Nations are striking a strong chord with voters and Elizabeth Mayā€™s caucus will bring those issues to the forefront in any form of coalition government.

In the final days of the campaign, I will be visiting Creston, Cranbrook, Golden, Field and Revelstoke and meeting with the Tobacco Plains First Nation.

Bill Green,

Green Party candidate for Kootenay-Columbia
