ICE continue to add to roster

The Kootenay ICE today brought about two more players in the ongoing effort to improve the roster prior to the start of the 2017/18 Western Hockey League season.

First up, the club has acquired 1997-born forward Colton Veloso from the Portland Winterhawks. In exchange, the Winterhawks get a conditional fourth round draft pick in 2018.

Veloso, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has two goals and five points in five pre-season games in 2017.

Last season, Veloso, an assistant captain with the powerhouse Winterhawk, recorded 18 goals and 32 points in 71 regular season games. He added two goals and six points in 11 playoff games.

ā€œColton will add experience and skill to our forward group,ā€ said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. ā€œHe contributed on a very good team last year and we look forward to his arrival.ā€

The ICE also announced the signing of 2002-born goaltender Will Gurski.

The Duncan resident was selected in the fourth round (#72 overall) by the ICE in 2017.

During the 2016-17 season, Gurski appeared 22 games with the Shawnigan Lake School Bantam Prep of the CSSBHL. The six-foot-three, 185-pound goalie posted a 8.89 goals against average (G.A.A.) and a .844 save percentage (SV%) during that time. Gurski also appeared in two playoff games posting a 2.02 G.A.A and a .946 SV%.

ā€œGoaltending is a key position and critical to success in the Western Hockey League, Will is part of what we believe will be a great draft class for our future. We are excited that he has chosen to commit to our organization moving forward,ā€ Cockell said.
