Ice sign three new players

The Kootenay ICE has announced the signing of two forwards and a defenceman.

The Western Hockey League club has signed forwards James Form and Cody Shepheard, as well as defenceman Zachary Patrick.

Saskatoon resident Form was selected by the ICE in the third round (45th overall) in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

The 2002-born Form has played the previous two seasons with the Saskatoon Outlaws in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League. The six-foot-one, 165-pound forward registered 29 goals and 56 points in 30 regular season games with the Outlaws during the 2016-17 season. Form added five goals and nine points in four playoff games.

“James and his family have made a commitment to the ICE, we are committed to working very closely with him to partner in the achievement of his goals over the next several years,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “Development is a process. James is committed to doing the work on and off the ice to earn opportunity moving forward.”

From Qualicum Beach, the 2001-born Shepheard was selected in the eighth round by the ICE in 2016.

Shepheard – listed at six feet and 166-pounds – recorded 17 goals and 34 points in 28 regular season games with Shawnigan Lake School Varsity of the CSSVHL during the 2016-17 season. He also registered two points in two playoff games.

“Cody had a good camp, he brings size, compete and skill in a group of forwards that we are excited about looking ahead. We look forward to supporting his development this year and think he will contribute to what we believe is a strong group of 2001 born players moving forward,” Cockell said.

The 2001-born Zachary Patrick was listed last season by Director of Scouting Garnet Kazuik.

The Winnipeg native played the 2016-17 season with the Winnipeg Wild of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League. Patrick registered four goals and 25 assists for 29 points in 39 games with the Wild last season. The six foot, 170-pound defender also added four points in 11 playoff games.

“Zachary has a high hockey IQ, skates well and he is competing for ice; he wants to make the team,” said Cockell. “His camp has been very good and we will give him every opportunity along with our other talented young defence in camp.”

The ICE have now signed its first three selections from the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. Forward Connor McClennon (second overall) and defenceman Anson McMaster (23rd overall) signed with the club in May and June respectively.
