Jeremy Youngward tossing hat in election ring

A Cranbrook business owner has announced he intends to run for City of Cranbrook council in the October municipal election.

Jeremy Youngward outlined on social media (June 24) that today features two big moments.

The first, his first son was born 16 years ago today, at a time when he and his young family were preparing to depart Edmonton for Cranbrook, to help manage a motel in the city.

“Six years (and one more son) later, the business was sold. Facing both unemployment and homelessness, our families and friends back in Edmonton offered solace through suggestions, “Come back home to Edmonton, it’ll be okay,” he related.

“But we couldn’t really do that. We had made a commitment. That meant something. Besides, we were already home.

“And so we stayed, and quickly found ourselves new homes, and new jobs. Several homes (and jobs) later, one thing has remained unchanged. Our commitment to this community. A commitment to see it succeed, grow, thrive. To speak its name, proudly. To find its place,” Youngward said.

“Today, I’m announcing a new expression of that commitment. Today, I’m very happy and proud to announce that I will be running in the fall for a seat on Cranbrook city council.

“I’m committed to Cranbrook, and I hope you are too,” he stated.

Youngward said further information about his campaign will be forthcoming.
