Labour law seminars April 5 at Heritage

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Haddad Financial Services, are presenting two Labour Law Seminars on Thursday, April 5 at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Conference Centre.

“Labour law is an area that is so often overlooked,” said Chamber Executive Director David D. Hull.  “Everyone is so busy running their business and concentrating on the nuances of their particular challenges that keeping up with changes in the labour law environment, or compiling with established rules, is often unheeded.”

“The pending legalization of cannabis, explosion of social media and heightened awareness of the necessity of respect in the workplace, as evidenced by the #metoo movement, and a plethora of emerging issues create a constantly changing labour law landscape. It is imperative that employers remain current and compliant.”

Jamie Lalonde, a lawyer with the local firm of Miles, Zimmer & Associates, will present an overview of some of the hot topics that employers need to be aware of going forward.

“In an hour and a half this is going to be a really good high level look at labour law,” said Hull. “Any one of the subjects touched on could be an all-day seminar. Our goal is to create awareness for employers about the pitfalls and difficulties that can arise with non compliance to labour laws.”

To ensure an opportunity for as many employers as possible to participate in this invaluable seminar a morning and late afternoon session are being offered. The morning session includes a full hot breakfast and the afternoon session will be offering hot appetizers and nibbles.
