RCMP seek witnesses and dash cam video to aid investigation

A motorcycle rider is in serious condition in hospital after a collision with a pickup truck near Cranbrook, and BC Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate.

On August 5, at 12:52 p.m., police were called to a collision between a grey Chevrolet Silverado and a black Harley Davidson on Highway 95A at Mission Wycliffe Road.

The 28-year-old woman who was driving the grey Silverado was unhurt, but the 39-year-old man who was riding the black Harley Davidson, who is also a RCMP officer who works at a nearby detachment, was seriously injured.

In order to maintain a more independent investigation, BC Highway Patrol has been asked to take conduct.

“We need as many independent witnesses as possible, along with any dash camera video that shows the events leading up to the collision,” said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “We have already spoken to independent witnesses who stopped to help, but we need to be complete and thorough.”

At this early stage in the investigation, there are no indications of overt criminality such as impairment or speed. The RCMP officer was off-duty and riding a civilian motorcycle at the time of the collision.

Anyone who saw the collision between the grey Chevrolet Silverado and the black Harley Davidson, or who has dash camera video of the events shortly before and after the collision, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Cranbrook at 250-420-4244 and quote file (2100) 2026-2302.
