McPhee/Theatre Road intersection work underway

Improvements to the rail crossing on McPhee Road, along with the installation of permanent traffic lights at the McPhee Road/Theatre Road intersection, is fully underway.

Thanks in part to federal grant funding through the Rail Safety Improvement Program (RISP), the McPhee Road/Theatre Road intersection has been converted to a three-way stop while the full road closure is in place.

Work is well underway with the install of new deep utilities on the north side of the rail crossing (see above photo).

“This deep utility work will continue for the next three weeks with new concrete curbs and paving to follow shortly after,” said Curtis Mummery, Manager of Roads and Infrastructure. “We will work to keep this closure as short as possible and ask everyone to be patient as we complete these important upgrades.”

The intersection will be reduced to single lane alternating traffic on Thursday, October 6, for the removal of existing asphalt in the intersection. Over the following weeks there will be traffic interruptions at varying times to complete the installation of new signal light bases, concrete curbs and other utility work. We ask that everyone follows the direction of onsite flagging personal to keep everyone safe.

The city anticipates the majority of the work on the project will be completed by late October, with final cleanup and signal light commissioning to be completed in early to mid-November. The city gratefully acknowledges the financial commitment of the Government of Canada toward this important public safety work.
