VIC volunteers needed

The tourism season is ramping up with a lot of tourists already in our community.  With that will be the June 1 opening of the Elizabeth Lake Visitor Information Centre at the south entrance to Cranbrook.

Information kiosk at the Elizabeth Lake VIC area.

There is a need for a minimum of 12 new volunteers to help staff the centre through the summer.

“We lose a few volunteers each off season so every spring we are looking for new recruits,” said Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce office manager Laura Kennedy. “The chamber provides visitor information services under contract and our volunteer corps at Elizabeth Lake is essential.”

“The vast majority of our volunteers are retired folks or seniors but of course all ages can sign up to enjoy a summer of talking to our visitors and providing information and directions,” said Kennedy. The time requirement is quite minimal at one four hour shift a week.”

Long time volunteers have nothing but positive comments about their time at the visitor centre. It is a great chance to meet people and talk about the great attributes of Cranbrook and the region

Often couples work together or split up and work with others as a chance to socialize between visitors. Training is provided to Destination BC guidelines and the season wraps up with a fabulous appreciation dinner.

To sign up, or to obtain more information, please call Alicia or Laura Kennedy at the chamber office 250-426-5914.
