As BC Wildfire Service crews continue to make progress on the Tower Creek fire (N10947), a portion of the Evacuation Alert that was issued on July 19 has been rescinded.

As of 12 p.m. August 5, 65 properties in the St. Mary Lake area will no longer be under an Evacuation Alert.

The Evacuation Alert remains in place for one property west of St. Mary Lake: • 4404 ST MARY LAKE RD.

“With the continued work of the crews, the BC Wildfire Service feels it is safe to lift the Alert for these 65 properties,” said Regional Emergency Operations Centre Information Officer Loree Duczek.

“We are grateful to all the women and men on the front lines and behind the scenes who have been working to protect the residents and their properties.”

The Tower Creek fire is currently estimated to be 1,188 hectares in size. This size increase comes from the Tower Creek and Tower Creek 2 fires, which are now being reported by BC Wildfire as one fire – N10947.

Although a portion of the Alert has been rescinded, Duczek says it’s still important for all residents in the region to remain aware and prepared. “This continues to be an active wildfire and conditions remain extremely dry. We all need to continue to stay prepared and aware as we still have a lot of summer left.”
