Local fish and game clubs host National Range Day events
BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF) member clubs in Columbia Valley and Creston open their doors with family-friendly public events
Communities across B.C. are preparing to celebrate National Range Day with family-friendly events between May 31 and June 14.
Canada’s sport shooters invite the public to spend the day learning about our heritage and experiencing a sport that is open to people of all ages and abilities. More than 2.3 million Canadians are licensed firearms owners.
Target ranges around the province are typically operated by local fish and game clubs for their members’ use and often as practice facilities for local police departments.
National Range Day takes place annually across Canada on or about the first Saturday in June.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation is proud to be affiliated with many clubs across the province that own and operate legal ranges where hunters sight their rifles, sport shooters practice, and families bond over their heritage. Many of our affiliated clubs hold events in celebration of National Range Day.
On National Range Day qualified club members will be on hand to teach safe firearms handling skills, run sharpshooting competitions and answer questions. Clubs will also host local elected officials, MLAs and MPs so they can better understand shooting sports and Canada’s long history of responsible firearms ownership.
“Attending a Range Day event with your friends and neighbours is a great way to introduce them to sport shooting, archery, and hunting in a fun, safe environment,” said BCWF Advocacy Coordinator Monte Clarke. “Sport shooting is truly an equal opportunity sport that is open to all.”
