Snowfall warning for Elk Valley and KNP

Environment Canada earlier this morning issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley and Kootenay National Park (KNP) areas with total amounts from 15 to 25 cm expected tonight.

An approaching Pacific frontal system is tracking inland today and is expected to stall across the southern interior tonight.

Snow at times heavy will begin this evening with 15 cm expected in the Elk Valley and up to 25 cm in Kootenay Park before changing to rain Friday morning.

While the Environment Canada snowfall warning only covers the Elk Valley and the national park, the Columbia Valley and Cranbrook/Kimberley areas are expected to get between five and 10 cm of snow.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
