Potential devastating situation knocked down by responders

An overnight fire at the Galloway Sawmill produced great trepidation from area residents who could see the flames in the night and even greater response from area firefighters, residents and emergency personnel.

The Regional District of East Kootenay Fire Services ā€“ South Country reported this morning on Facebook that over 60 personnel helped action the quickly spreading fire.
ā€œAlong with seven apparatus and 17 personnel from the Jaffray, Baynes Lake, and Elko Fire Departments, we had on scene; multiple mill workers and local residents, the 22 person Monashee BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) Unit Crew, a 10 person contract fire crew (Fall Line Forestry), a BCWS helicopter and bucket, three local water trucks, and an ambulance from BCAS. A job well done by all! Your help absolutely helped us avert a potential ā€˜community devastatingā€™ situation!ā€ The RDEK noted.

A crew remained on scene overnight to action any hotspots that may have popped up, eventually knocking down two hotspots.
