Elderly woman rescued from Elk River

Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers were called out twice June 29.

The first call was for an injured runner on the Tamarack Trail, SAR reported on social media. Island Lake Resort’s first aid crew were able to help them to BCAS.

The second involved an 82-year old woman who was swept away in the Elk River.

Fernie SAR worked alongside the RCMP, Fernie Fire/Rescue and BCEHS to locate and rescue her, and she was safely delivered to BCAS via helicopter.

“We are honoured to work alongside such skilled and dedicated responders in our sister emergency teams in the (Elk) Valley. Today was a great example of teamwork leading to a happy outcome in very challenging circumstances,” SAR stated.
