Elk Valley RCMP Report
Elk Valley RCMP Detachment officers responded to 201 calls for service between March 19 and April 7.
Officers were kept busy with the following calls: 17 motor vehicle collisions; two assaults; one arson; two breach of bail violations; four cause a disturbance; one careless use of a firearm; three fraud; one criminal harassment; 12 mischief; seven suspicious person/vehicle/occurrence; three bike thefts; five theft under $5,000; one shoplifting; and two liquor tickets under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act.
RCMP issued 35 motor vehicle infraction tickets.
One ticket was written for failing to stop for a school bus, under Section 149 of the Motor Vehicle Act. A motorist was seen passing a school bus with it’s red lights flashing. Such action can put children’s lives at risk.
The fine amount given was $368, which also comes with three demerit points. RCMP wants to remind the public that school is now back from spring break. Please be extra cautious in school/playground zones and mindful of school buses.
Nine impaired drivers were stopped by the Elk Valley RCMP resulting with the following: one person received a 24-hour driving prohibition; five received a 90-Day Driving Prohibition plus 30- Day Vehicle Impoundment; and three received a three-day Driving Prohibition plus seven-day vehicle impoundment.
Persons of Interest – Sparwood
Elk Valley RCMP is hoping someone from the public can help identify an older male and younger female going door-to-door in the Ponderosa area of Sparwood, on April 5 between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. The older male was wearing a white shirt with blue/black stripes and the female had long curly hair and was wearing a black blazer jacket. They were seen getting into a newer Jeep, dark in colour.
