$45k in scholarships at TFA graduation

June 28 was The Fernie Academy (TFA) graduation ceremonies.
Eleven grads plus a first-ever honorary diploma were celebrated. This is the 16th year anniversary of the school. The ceremonies are usually held on the courthouse lawn but rain moved them inside the United Church that turned out to be a great venue.
A total of $45,000 worth of scholarships were given to the students. The ceremony was very moving especially as Mr. Chuck Shoesmith came down the aisle on crutches. Chuck is a well-known and successful businessman who is a great volunteer and contributes greatly to the community.
Congratulations to TFA the graduating class of 2018 and to Chuck Shoesmith.
It was a pleasure to present the City of Fernie scholarship to valedictorian Lauren Samycia who gave a wonderful inspiring speech.
