Thursday, June 1, saw the opening of the 13th annual Banner Program at the Fernie Arts Station.

Original banners were introduced by the City of Fernie in 1999, but in 2003 the Arts Council asked to be involved with the program and so a partnership began.

Local resident Linda Hide initiated the idea of having images from local artists placed on the banners and Terry Nelson from the city chose the background colours and made sure they became spectacular banners.

This year there was a total of 100 entries and 39 were chosen; 67 artists submitted and children’s art was submitted by a parent as well the Academy and Fernie High school submitted student’s works.

Entries came from Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and the South Country.
