Out of the Box returns July 9

The annual Out of the Box live painting event will take place on Sunday, July 9 at Station Square in downtown Fernie.

This year we’ll see individual artists as well as group collaborations. Come out to watch these artist’s visions come to life and the ordinary dumpster be transformed into Fernie arts dumpsters.

This year’s artists are: Peggy Black, Brina Schenk, Joey Kosolofski, Dejana Lukac, Tanya Kindrat, Leanne-Raye Timmons, Drew Hampson and Scott Cable.

There will also be a ‘Community Canvas’ where anyone can pick an area and paint his/her own public art contribution, as well as free craft activities in our Kids Arts Corner.

Out of the Box is intended as a way for our regional art community to bring beauty and creativity to a seemingly mundane item like a trash dumpster. Once completed the dumpsters will be placed strategically around Victoria Avenue as well as the Highway 3 corridor. Project facilitation is provided by the Fernie & District Arts Council and a volunteer committee. The commercial dumpsters have been generously donated by Southeast Disposal.

The event will feature a DJ and will coincide with the first of Fernie Chamber Of Commerce’s Sunday Socials.

This project is provided by the City of Fernie and facilitated by the Fernie District Arts Council. For more information please contact Louise Hilliard at [email protected] or 250-423-4842.
