City of Fernie appoints new Youth Councillor

The City of Fernie welcomes Summit Wannamaker as its new Youth Councillor.

The Youth Councillor is a one- year volunteer position created to raise youth awareness of local government activities and to bring a youth perspective to council matters and discussions.

“We really love our Youth Council position,” said Mayor Ange Qualizza. “Council has really enjoyed our previous Youth Councillors. They are enthusiastic, keen, and a valuable part of our team. We are looking forward to working with Mr. Wannamaker.”

Youth Councillor Wannamaker added, “I look forward to working with members of the public, and I am very much looking forward to working with council and bringing youth perspectives to council meetings. I’m thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to my term as a Youth Councillor.”

The Youth Council position extends from September 2021, through to June 30, 2022, providing opportunity for the city to garner insight into the needs of our youth community.
