City of Fernie mulling one-way for main street
The City of Fernie is looking for feedback on a proposal to change the traffic flow on 2nd Avenue to one-way traffic only in order to expand opportunities for businesses to increase patronage while following required COVID-19 safety protocols.
“With a change to one-way traffic, the existing road cross-section on 2nd Avenue can safely accommodate the expansion of commercial businesses into the street, while still providing angle street parking, loading zones, and a bike lane,” the city stated on its website.
The city has launched a survey to seek feedback and determine support for this idea.
The deadline to complete the survey is July 2. The results of the survey, as well as refined recommendations, will be presented at an upcoming meeting of council.
