The Fernie Fox Hotel has made a significant donation to three non-profit organizations in Fernie, as part of its annual Community Appreciation Initiative.

The hotel, which has a history of supporting community programs and employees, provided the Fernie Senior Citizens Drop-In Centre with a $4,000 donation, and the Fernie Heritage Library and Fernie Women’s Resource Centre with $500 each to support ongoing initiatives.

The hotel donated $5,000 earlier this year to employee Dindin Dimayacyac to assist in furthering her son’s education at the University of Lethbridge in the fall. This amounts to a total of $10,000 from the hotel in support of the community to date in 2021.

The donation recipients were decided by Fernie locals, who were asked to post a selfie online with the Fox sign (on the hotel front) for the Fox’s latest September tradition, “Fernie Fox Community Appreciation Month.” Locals posted their picture with the name of the non-profit they would like to see the money go to.

“We had a great response from the community with this latest community appreciation campaign, and the overwhelming number of pictures were taken by senior members of our community in support of the Seniors Centre,” said Marina Pauw, co-owner of the Fernie Fox Hotel with Jeremiah Pauw.

Under the Fernie Fox Hotel’s Community Appreciation Initiative and as active business members of Fernie, the hotel recognizes the efforts of other businesses in the locality and their contributions to the community.

The Fernie Fox Hotel takes a community-centric approach, setting a $25,000 budget annually to support local individuals, organizations, and events, including youth sports, trail building, cultural events and student scholarships.

Since its inception in 2020, the hotel has made a number of other donations to the Fernie Dog Park, the Elk Valley Hospital and numerous youth sports groups. The Fernie Fox Hotel also sponsors the Fernie Snowmobile Association, Fernie Ghostriders Hockey and the Fernie Chamber of Commerce.
