Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was tasked the afternoon of Feb. 22 by Elk Valley RCMP to respond to a report of a snowmobiler in medical distress in the Little Sand Creek area.

Two Fernie SAR techs responded via helicopter but, despite their efforts and those of the friends and other sledders on scene, the man could not be resuscitated, SAR reported on social media.

“Fernie SAR would like to thank those on the ground for their efforts, and the thoughts of all our members are with the man’s family and friends.”
