Members of the Jaffray Fire Department responded to a tractor fire this afternoon (June 18).

“The call came in, and the crew was able to quickly control the fire and keep it from spreading to additional equipment or the surrounding area,” explained Elk Valley/South Country Deputy Fire Chief Ben Goertzen.

“The quick action of all involved prevented what could have been a much more serious situation had the fire spread to the surrounding hay field or beyond.”

In total, seven members of the Jaffray department responded to the call just after 1 p.m. with three pieces of apparatus. There were no injuries.

While the fire itself was largely extinguished within 30 minutes, crews remained on site mopping up and ensuring there were no hot spots for much of the afternoon.
