67 people assisted at warming centres

The District of Sparwood is thanking “all our amazing volunteers and staff for their efforts during the closure of Highway 3 on Sunday and Monday this week (Feb. 5 & 6).

“Your assistance was essential to us in providing the highest quality care to our stranded travellers who had been visiting or passing through our community during to the snowstorm. Your contributions allowed the district to assist 67 people who passed through our warming centres at the Fire Hall and Leisure Centre,” the district stated in its most recent Council Facts.

“A special thank you the staff at the Causeway Bay who were able to provide shelter and meals for approximately 300 people, including creating a games room to keep the young ones entertained during this stressful time. Their staff went above and beyond by opening their homes when space ran out. Thank you Sparwood for once again all coming together!” The district said.

The District of Sparwood is still seeking ESS and EOC volunteers. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the upcoming training sessions, please contact the Emergency Program Coordinator, Michelle Martineau at [email protected].
