Fire shuts down lift at Kimberley Resort

One day after opening for the 2021/2022 season, Kimberley Alpine Resort has had to close today (Dec. 18) after a fire in the lift operator hut at the top station of the Northstar Quad chair.

As a result of this, the lift is currently inoperable, the resort noted on social media this morning.

“Unfortunately, due to this incident, the ski resort lifts will not be in operation today. We ask that everyone please stay off the mountain including any up-tracking.”

Guest Services will be open to handle any guest enquiries, refund requests, etc.

“Please be patient with our staff as they deal with the volume of enquiries. KAR season pass holders are able to ski at other RCR ski resorts while the NSX Quad chair is down.”

The resort reports no injuries resulted from the fire, which the RCMP and Kimberley Fire Department are currently investigating.

While downhill fun is kiboshed, there are still activities taking place at the resort.

Lennan Delaney will still play today (Saturday) in the Stemwinder Bar and Grill at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. It is a limited capacity, seated event. Please note, proof of vaccine and ID required.

The resort is also still offering Trickle Creek S’mores Snowshoe Tours at this time.

Contact the resort for more information.
