Kimberley RCMP building upgrades going Alternative Approval Process route
City of Kimberley council August 22 unanimously authorized city administration to proceed with an Alternative Approval Process for the RCMP Building Upgrades Project Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 2425, 2011. Council also approved the elector response form and set the deadline date for receiving elector responses to be Thursday, October 6.
City Administration Committee chair Coun. Brent Bush put forward the motion to obtain resident support to borrow the funds required to upgrade the RCMP building.
“It’s the same procedure as we’ve done in the past,” said Mayor Jim Ogilvie.
“We have a number of upgrades that are required,” he explained, noting that cameras need to be installed in the detachment jail cells.
“They are expensive but necessary. In fact, without the alterations we couldn’t operate the cells,” Ogilvie noted.
