New Year’s Eve Torchlight Ski 2016
Looking for a memorable New Year’s Eve? How about a torchlight ski at the Kimberley Nordic Centre?
The three-km torchlight ski trail has become a gathering place for friends and family who are looking for a mindful, tranquil setting to enjoy the early evening of New Years’ Eve. In addition it provides a great view of the fireworks display that takes place at the Kimberley Alpine Resort.
This event has been running for eight consecutive years and has become an East Kootenay tradition for local residents and visitors to Kimberley. Each year an estimated 500 people visit the trails over the course of the evening.
Skiers are greeted at the hut by the racing team with hot drinks, appetizers and sweet treats. Skiers gather after their ski to warm up, mingle and enjoy the amenities of the Kimberley Nordic Lodge.
The Torchlight Ski takes place between 7 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 31 at the Kimberley Nordic Centre. All ages are welcome and encouraged to participate. Admission is by donation, with proceeds supporting the Kimberley Nordic Racers.
The Kimberley Junior Racers are a group of teenaged skiers who train year-round, and compete in regional, provincial, national and international races.
The event is sponsored by six local businesses; Kimberley Tourism, Kimberley Lodging Company, Spirit Rock Climbing Wall, Kootenay Savings and Credit Union and Rockies Law Corporation in Kimberley. The Kimberley Nordic Club and junior racers would like to thank these local businesses for their financial support.
