Notes from City Hall

Council Meeting Schedule

The next regular meeting of City of Kimberley council will be held on Monday, November 25, at 7 p.m. The December 2, Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting will be cancelled and replaced with a Special (Budget) Meeting as a continuation of 2020-2024 Financial Plan deliberations. All meetings are held in Council Chambers upstairs at City Hall. The public is welcomed to attend.

Wildfire Management Public Open House

Join City Fire Department Officials at an Open House on Tuesday, November 26 at 6 p.m. at Centennial Hall. The open house is a great opportunity to learn about all of the ways the city, the province, and industry is collaborating to reduce the wildfire threat in our community. Joining the city will be the BC Wildfire Service, Provincial Department of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, and several technical specialists.

Wildfire management areas to be discussed include the Kimberley Nordic Centre, Kimberley Nature Park, Levirs Ave, Forest Crowne Estates, lower Matthew Creek, and others.

For further information, please contact Rick Prasad, Fire Chief at 250-427-4114 or by email at [email protected].

2020-2024 Financial Plan

Are you interested in learning about the city budgeting process? For the past several months, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jim Hendricks has been presenting to council and the public on the 2020 – 2024 Financial Plan at several Special Meetings of Council. The 2020 – 2024 Financial Plan will be adopted in the spring of 2020. For the next several months, the city welcomes residents to review the presentations and provide input into the city’s budgeting process in many ways – by email, by attending a future Special Meeting of Council or by attending an Open House in early 2020 (dates to be determined). Please visit www.kimberley.ca/2020-2024-financial-plan for more information on the financial planning process and how you can provide your input.

Winter Snow Clearing

The city revisits the Snow and Ice Management Plan yearly in order to ensure continuous improvement of snow and ice clearing efforts. From time to time, this review may result in modifications to the way snow and ice is cleared from your area. If you have any questions regarding snow removal, please call the Operations Department at 250-427-9660.

Non-Residential Gap Analysis

The Economic Development Department, along with contractors FBM Architecture and MDB Insights, is conducting a Non-Residential Gap Analysis for the City of Kimberley. This analysis will help assess, identify and define retail and light industrial gaps and opportunities in the city. As a part of this study, the project team will be conducting a random telephone survey of 200 residents about shopping patterns and preferences in Kimberley as well as canvassing business owners and operators to gather input into the local market. If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Schaun Goodeve at [email protected].
