ShelterBox aiding Indonesia

The Kimberley Rotary Club would like to thank all the generous donors who supported ShelterBox Canada at the Fall Fair in the Marysville Arena.

A number of you who visited our ShelterBox display asked if aid was going to Indonesia.

The following article from ShelterBox Canada’s website (Sept. 28) gives an up date:

“This is the latest in a series of earthquakes to hit Indonesia.

“We already have a ShelterBox team on the island of Lombok, helping families recover from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit in August. The team is working with our local Rotary contacts to deliver aid to families in Lombok who lost everything in the quakes. So far we have helped over 650 families across north and west Lombok.

“In addition to providing tents, tarpaulins, ropes, kitchen sets, blankets, ground sheets, mosquito nets, and solar lights, we have also provided tents to maternity and postnatal clinics.

“Now, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi, we are hoping to help many more families. An initial ShelterBox Response Team of three people will be traveling to Indonesia this week to understand how we might be able to help Sulawesi families.”

If you missed the opportunity to donate at the Fall Fair and wish to do so you can do this online at www.ShelterBoxCanada.org.  Donations can also be made at Kootenay Savings Credit Union in Kimberley. Tax receipts will be issued for all donations of $20 or more.

Thanks again to all of you who have or who plan to support this disaster relief program.
