Suicidal man taken to regional hospital after lockdown
On January 23, Kimberley RCMP responded to a report of a suicidal male in the 800 block of 307 Street in Marysville. The male was located in an RV at that location and was threatening suicide if RCMP attempted entry.
The area was contained with the assistance of the Southeast District Containment Team until the arrival of the Emergency Response Team. During this incident, the Marysville School was placed on lockdown and several nearby residences were evacuated.
An RCMP negotiator was engaged and after several hours, the male exited the RV, was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act and transported to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
“The Kimberley RCMP would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this event and are thankful that no injuries were sustained to anyone,” stated Sgt. Steve Woodcox, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander.
