Former Av chosen for Aussie national junior team
Former College of the Rockies Men’s Avalanche player, Curtis Stockton, has been chosen for a position on the Australian National Junior volleyball team.
The Australian Junior Men’s Development Program (JMDP) consists of national camps and international tours for targeted athletes from across Australia. The program regularly produces international-quality players capable of achieving professional careers and of being chosen for the Senior National team. This is Stockton’s second time representing his native-country internationally.
“I am extremely excited to be given another opportunity by my country to represent them on the volleyball court. I thank everyone at College of the Rockies who has been involved in my volleyball development over the past three years,” Stockton said.
Stockton, who played right-side for the college’s Men’s Avalanche team for three years, won several honours during his time with the Avs, including PACWEST 1st Team All-Star in 2013/14 and 2014/15, PACWEST Player of the Year for 2013/14 and CCAA All-Canadian in 2013/14.
While at the college, Stockton was enrolled in Business Administration courses. He will be moving on to Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) level play in September when he suits up for the University of Calgary Dinos.
Former Avalanche coach Steve Kamps comments, “It was amazing to see the growth in Curtis’ game over the three years he played with the Avalanche. He improved in all areas of his game and was extremely dedicated in the off-season to continue developing his physical strength. Curt is getting the recognition that he deserves and playing on the Australian Junior National team will be a wonderful experience that he can take with him to the University of Calgary this fall.”
Stockton is currently taking part in scrimmages and practices in Bangkok, Thailand and will then travel to Myanmar for the under-23 Men’s Asia championships. Teams in his pool include China, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and Turkmenistan.
