Cinnamon Teal
By Larry Halverson/Friends of Kootenay
The vivid breeding plumage of the drake Cinnamon Teal is hard to miss and the male’s cinnamon colour makes them very easy to identify.
The females, however, are a different story. Their mottled brown colour makes them almost indistinguishable from Blue-winged Teal hens. There are only four months to view Cinnamon Teal in the Columbia Valley as they arrive about the middle of April and leave by mid August. Look for them in marshes and ponds. Alan Dibb took this great photo at the Radium Hot Springs Mill Pond.
