Numbers on the rise at Rockies International

Cranbrook Airport Services Ltd., along with the City of Cranbrook, is pleased to announce that first quarter passenger numbers for the Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) have increased slightly over first quarter 2011 passenger numbers. The first quarter of 2012 passenger statistics show an increase of 781 passengers (three per cent) over 2011’s first quarter numbers. Year-to-date, the total passengers arriving and departing from YXC were 30,059.

Integra Air service to Edmonton continues to grow spurred by their seat sale which ran in March. Integra Air’s April seat sale is on now for travel booked until June 2012. Pacific Coastal Airlines continues to provide excellent service and fares to the South Terminal at Vancouver International Airport. In addition, Air Canada Express flights to Calgary and the main terminal in Vancouver are well served with fare sales also in effect for travel into the summer months.

The Airport Capital Plan has been approved with a number of major projects planned for 2012. These projects include the Activation of a Solar Water Heating System, Completion of Flight Information Display Screen installations initiated in 2011, Upgrades to the Airfield Electrical Infrastructure, and the replacement of a Runway Sweeper, a key piece of Winter Operations heavy mobile equipment. Transport Canada is providing majority funding through the Airport Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the Airfield Electrical Upgrade and the replacement of the Runway Sweeper.

YXC is also delighted to announce that a new restaurant operator has been secured. ‘The Pickled Bean’ restaurant will begin operation on May 1 under new management and with a fresh new menu. In the meantime, airport administration will continue to provide coffee, tea and baked goods on the honour system with proceeds going to the Cranbrook Food Bank. Cranbrook Airport Services Ltd. would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support through this time of transition for the Food and Beverage provider.
