Rowing Club hosting first-time event April 13 at mall
On Saturday, April 13, Rockies Rowing Club is set to host its first ever ERG-A-THON; a head-to-head relay simulated rowing race.
This event will take place in Cranbrook at the Tamarack Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our mission is to raise awareness about rowing and training, increase membership and raise funds to support our club.
Rockies Rowing Club has been providing rowing opportunities since 2001, training rowers who have gone on to row and race at other rowing clubs, college, university and beyond as well as rowers who find the recreational aspect of rowing benefiting them socially and physically.
In order to keep our programs affordable we have kept our fees reasonable, which means we need to raise funds in order to acquire the equipment made available to members of the club. In recent years we have built our own trailer to transport boats and increased the number of seats from six to 12, by purchase of boats.
Our equipment is aging so we are fundraising to acquire new sculling oars, sweep oars, uniforms and other necessary equipment to help grow the best kept secret that makes JimSmith Lake home, Rockies Rowing Club.
The planned ERG-A-THON is a very exciting opportunity for our youth, some of whom are up and coming college, university or other club athlete hopefuls and for our faithful, long time members who simply row for the love of the sport (and a bit of competition as Masters rowers).
Our rowers who will row on a rowing simulator off the water for a duration of five hours would like to call on your support by having you come out and cheer on our rowers, and if you are so inclined, try a rowing machine (not to race but to experience the action).
Information about how to get involved or donate can be found at our website.
