Fernie mops up following Feb. 9 house explosion
Fernie residents and homes were rattled yesterday morning (February 9), when a 6th Avenue house exploded and caught fire.
Fernie Fire and Emergency Services responded immediately, along with Elk Valley RCMP and BC Ambulance Service and extinguished the house fire, saving nearby properties, the City of Fernie reported on social media.
“One resident was inside the home at the time but managed to self-evacuate successfully,” the city noted.
Sadly, a dog and a cat were killed.
Several homes in the block were without gas and hydro services for a period after the explosion.
