Heavy rainfall expected this weekend
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is anticipating heavy rainfall over this weekend, which could result in some pooling water in some areas.
Crews are currently out applying liquid de-icing on Class C and D roads, to break up the compact on the sideroads, Mainroad reported this afternoon (Feb. 21) in a stakeholders’ update.
Mainroad’s forecast:
Cranbrook:
Rainfall is forecasted to begin tomorrow with up to three mm expected. Sunday will have heavier rainfall with up to 10mm of rainfall forecasted. Rain will continue into Monday but with up to three mm of rainfall expected.
Yahk:
Mixed precipitation is expected to begin tonight and turn full to rain Saturday morning.
We are expecting up to 15 mm of rainfall on Saturday and up to 25 mm of rain for Sunday. Rainfall is forecasted to taper off on Monday with up to 5mm forecasted.
Elk Valley:
Mixed precipitation will begin tonight and continue throughout the weekend. Saturday is forecasted to have up to five cm of snowfall with two to four mm of anticipated rainfall. Sunday morning will begin with up to five cm of snowfall, turning to rain early morning with up to 25 mm. Monday is forecasted to have up to four cm of snowfall.
Columbia Valley:
Rainfall will begin on Saturday. Sunday rainfall is heavier with up to10 mm expected. Rainfall will continue lightly into Monday, with up to three mm forecasted.
