Teamwork lands rescue dog in Cranbrook

A Cranbrook resident has a new family member after two pet rescue groups teamed up.

Earlier this month, Wet Noses Rescue contacted Canadian Wings of Rescue to transport Freya from Abbotsford to a new foster family in Cranbrook. Freya was rescued in Mexico from a devastating situation.

Freya today.

For years she was chained up and starved by her owner. Thankfully, Wet Noses rescued Freya and helped get her to Canada where she was first fostered.

Now that Freya has grown in strength and size, Doris Khvediouk of Cranbrook agreed to foster Freya at her property.

“Once we received the request for Freya’s transport, Canadian Wings of Rescue reached out to our network of 100 plus private pilots to request volunteers for this mission,” explained Cheryl Brean, communications director with Canadian Wings of Rescue.

“Private pilot Brad Reid, based in Kelowna, volunteered to take Freya’s flight. Our pilots donate their time, aircraft and fuel and are at the heart of our organization.”

“Fosters play a vital role in helping an animal transition into a forever home. I’m so grateful that Canadian Wings of Rescue partnered with Wet Noses Rescue to fly Freya to my home where she now has all the room she needs to run, play and enjoy the life she deserves,” said Doris Khvediouk.

Canadian Wings of Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run, registered charity dedicated to transporting animals within Canada. The group works with Canadian animal rescue groups, shelters, and wildlife rehabilitation centres to help arrange free, short flights via our network of volunteer pilots.

As a completely volunteer-run organization, they welcome donations.

“We also would love to spread the word about our organization to local communities where we can help rescues and attract more pilots to join our cause,” Bean said.
