wants to remind motorists that you are required by law to stop for any school bus displaying flashing red lights and the stop sign.

Drivers travelling in either direction on a roadway must stop when a school bus has activated its overhead lights to load or unload passengers. Motorists must remain stopped until the lights and stop signs are de-activated.

Since the beginning of June 2026, Elk Valley RCMP officers have issued seven violation tickets motorists for failing to stop for school buses.

Elk Valley RCMP want to remind motorists to keep our students safe by obeying school bus safety laws.
