Exciting new beginnings at the CDAC

CDAC interior 2The Cranbrook and District Arts Council (CDAC) will be holding its Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 18.

The Arts Council recently relocated to 1013 Baker Street and is currently featuring many dynamic displays with some traditional favourites along with lots of representation from youth artists.

CDAC Interior 3CDAC President Sioban Staplin is enthusiastic about the new beginnings. “The new Baker Street location is ideal for the Arts Council.

“The high ceilings provide a beautiful space for the gallery exhibits and we are really expanding our gift shop.

“Local artists and artisans should really benefit from this high visibility location so we encourage them to bring in their work as we head into the busy holiday season,” she said.

The Baker Street location offers more space for exhibits as well as the popular workshops the council offers.

“We have two new initiatives planned in addition to our regular exhibits and workshops,” Staplin explained.

CDAC“We are exploring the creation of a Cranbrook Art Walk Map that will guide visitors and residents to all of the great gallery spaces and encourage them to spend time in our downtown.

“The project that we are really excited about is our Back Alley Youth Arts Festival.

“This project will be led by youth and our goal is to engage youth in the creation and presentation of art in our community.

“We are looking at a smaller one day event in late spring 2016 which we hope will grow and expand year after year.”

According the Staplin, bringing in a younger demographic is high on the list for the Arts Council.

“We also have plenty of room to present workshops and children’s art programs. We are excited to take part in the many downtown activities coming up such as Trick or Treat and the Santa Claus Parade.”

Staplin encourages people to drop in during open hours and be sure to mark November 18 on your calendar.

“We will be holding our grand opening Wednesday, November 18 from 4-8 p.m. with live entertainment by KGB and refreshments,” she said.
