Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, September 16 through Sept. 22, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 66 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.
Construction office B&E
On Monday, September 16 police received a report of a break and enter to a construction office at the Radium Hot Springs pool parking lot. Entry was made into an office sometime over the weekend and a computer and first-aid kit were stolen. Police seized evidence for forensic examination and continue to investigate.
Bicycle stolen from resort
On Monday, September 16, a visitor reported his black and red Specialized LEVO bicycle was stolen from the Radium Valley Vacation Resort in Radium Hot Springs early Saturday morning. The bicycle was electric assisted.
Traffic stop yields arrest and charges
On Tuesday, September 17, at 9:45 p.m., a Columbia Valley officer conducted a traffic stop with a red Ford Taurus on Highway 93/95 near Invermere. While speaking to the driver, the officer recognized the passenger as a male who had outstanding warrants. The passenger was arrested on the warrants and during a search incidental to arrest, the officer located a small amount of what was believed to be illicit drugs. The male was held in custody on the outstanding warrants and also faces potential drug possession charges.
Diesel stolen in Canal Flats
On Thursday, September 19, police received a report of theft of diesel from the Village of Canal Flats dump truck. While conducting a scene examination the officer discovered a logging machine parked nearby also appeared to have diesel siphoned from the tank. Evidence was seized from the scene for forensic examination.
Trunk beer a giveaway
On Saturday, September 21, at about 4 p.m., an officer observed a Chevy Impala drive past him on Forester Landing Road in Radium Hot Springs with a beer can on the trunk of the car. The officer conducted a traffic stop and read a breath demand to the driver. The driver provided a breath sample which confirmed she had consumed alcohol. Although the driver was not over the legal limit, the driver had a “New” license and was not permitted to have any alcohol in her system. The driver was issued a 12-hour driving suspension.
