Wildfire mitigation work to happen near Pine Ridge
You may notice crews on a District of Invermere-owned parcel near Pine Ridge over the coming weeks.
The BC Wildfire Service is doing wildfire mitigation work to help reduce fire risk, and we are glad to support it.
Here is what to know:
- Crews are hand clearing brush and removing ladder fuels, the smaller trees and low branches that let fire climb into the treetops;
- The branches will be gathered into piles within the work area;
- The work will happen gradually through the summer as crews are available;
- Some of it is interagency cooperation, so you may see more than one crew on site;
- No burning is happening right now. The piles are planned for safe, controlled burning over the winter, the same as we did on 12th Avenue.
This kind of work makes our community more resilient heading into wildfire season.
