Ground Floor Co-working Space welcomed the community Thursday, April 5 with an open house and grand opening ceremony.

Community Futures East Kootenay spearheaded the project, which features 18 offices – all different businesses and organizations – that will operate in a shared common area.

There is also smaller desk areas available for rent in the new $2 million co-working space located at 100-131 7th Ave. South. With large volumes of natural light, tasteful seating and meeting areas and shared amenities such as coffee, a kitchen area, office supplies and machines, the operation is a look into the future, as noted by Tanya Malcolm, Community & Marketing Manager at the Ground Floor Co-working Space.

“It’s a really exciting time to be in small business in the East Kootenay. Cranbrook is recognized as the urban centre of our region and now we have a professional co-working space to compliment that position,” she said.

The establishment of the facility is the result of a collaboration of numerous investors, grantors, and local businesses, said Community Futures East Kootenay general manager Sean Campbell.

The project received $100,000 from the BC Rural Dividend Fund, $50,000 in funding from Employment & Social Development Canada, $1.7 million in private investments, sponsorships from IT and network community partners All 7 Tech Solutions and Isosceles; and more than 25 local businesses supporting the renovation.

Ground Floor Co-working Space is a shared office space for entrepreneurs, freelancers, small but growing companies and nonprofits who want to join a co-working community of professionals making a big impact through their work, Malcolm explained.
