Busy weekend for regional KIJHL clubs

The Kimberley Dynamiters head into this weekend’s Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) play on top of the Eddie Mountain Division and league standings.

The Nitros’ 21 win, five losses, one tie and one overtime loss record (44 points) has them seven points ahead of second place Creston Valley Thunder Cats (37 points).

The Columbia Valley Rockies (12-12-3-2 – 29 points) are in third in the Eddie, 10 points up on Fernie Ghostriders (8-13-1-2 – 19 points), with five fewer games played.

The Golden Rockets continue to sputter and languish in last place in the division and league with a one win, 24 losses, one tie and two overtime losses record (five points).

Kimberley looks to keep rolling into the Christmas break, with two final games – both against the Rockies, winners of two straight.

The Rockies are in Kimberley tonight for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Nitros.

And the Nitros head to Invermere’s Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena for a 7:30 p.m. return clash Saturday, Dec. 16. The two games are also the Rockies final matches before the Christmas break.

The Nelson Leafs are in Sparwood’s Elk Valley Leisure Centre tonight to take on the Fernie Ghostriders at 7:30 p.m. The Riders head to Golden Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt, and head to Christmas break following a Dec. 22 game against Creston Valley in Sparwood.

The Golden Rockets and Creston Valley Thunder Cats face off at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnny Bucyk Arena this evening (Dec. 15).

The Cats play again Dec. 20 with a road clash against the Castlegar Rebels.
