Be ready for more snow: Mainroad
Temperatures remain cold with clear, calm conditions tonight, with a possibility of periodic flurries up to 3cm over the next 24 hours in some areas.
Heavier snowfall is predicted to start about mid-day Sunday in all parts of the region and there will be periods of snow for the next several days after that.
Temperatures will rise somewhat, into the -10C range before starting to drop again later in the week. These conditions are likely to produce compact snow throughout the area and may not warm above the -9C threshold for Chloride use, so motorists should expect winter driving conditions throughout the service area next week.
Mainroad East Kootenay crews will be out plowing and sanding as required. Prior to the snow arriving, crews are at work widening side roads, cleaning guardrail flares and bridges and reducing site line hazards. Watch for equipment and traffic control persons, as some of this work requires short closures and single lane alternating traffic for brief periods.
The weather forecast has been changing quickly this week so there may be another update tomorrow if things change further, but be ready for more snow in any event.
There’s still a lot of wildlife moving around the area, and the predicted weather is conducive to blowing snow, particularly around large commercial vehicles. Warming temperatures and snowfall can also increase the avalanche hazard, both on mountain passes and in the backcountry, so check conditions and know before you go.
As always, motorists should leave extra time and be frequently checking www.drivebc.ca for road conditions and it would be advisable to check Environment Canada for any weather warning or alerts before setting out on a trip.
