Fernie ready to host 45th annual Griz Days

The Hot Wing Eating Challenge returns to the Fernie Hotel on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The 45th annual Griz Days celebrations will be held in Fernie and Fernie Alpine Resort March 4 to 6.

And thus far, it appears as though the weekend will be as close to pre-pandemic ways as possible.

“The safety of our community is our top priority, and the Griz will be following all COVID-19 Health Official recommendations and restrictions in place at all times.

The Griz Days committee is working hard to shift this celebration back to a pre pandemic format, but you will still see some modifications this year. Head to ferniegrizdays.com for the most up to date schedule! We look forward to celebrating with you!

Among a host of fun family events and the always hilarious Extreme Griz contest on Saturday, March 5 will be a return to a moving parade.

The Griz Parade will light up the night as it winds through downtown Fernie along an extended parade route to support social distancing, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Griz Days fireworks extravaganza will begin at 8:30 p.m. and organizers say it will be a high altitude show to support social distancing.

Wrapping the weekend of fun is the Sunday Raging Elk Dummy Downhill at Fernie Alpine Resort. Colourful, sliding creations will begin taking runs at 1 p.m.
