Ground broken for Everwild Fernie Resort

Fernie’s tourism picture is shining brighter following a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, June 22 for Everwild Fernie Resort, a riverfront Nordic spa and boutique hotel set to open in fall 2027.

Proponents, project contractors and regional and city tourism and business leaders gathered for the 1 p.m. launch of the exciting new project, which is located between the Canadian Tire shopping complex and the Elk River/ Leo T. Nimsick Bridge (1-1791 9th Ave.).

The proposed 70-room, 37,000 sq. ft. Nordic spa and wellness destination is coming thanks to Basecamp Resorts, a Canadian hospitality platform specializing in mountain destinations across Western Canada, with properties in Canmore, Banff and Revelstoke.

Included in the plans of what will be one of Fernie’s largest resorts: 48-seat restaurant; two large hot pools; a cold pool; event sauna; steam room; Treatment rooms; and Open exfoliation areas.

Architecture is by Systemic Architecture Inc., while spa and interior design remain internal to the Everwild and Basecamp teams. The design reflects its alpine environment and the rustic mountain town character of Fernie.

The company estimates annual visitation of approximately 55,000 guests.

“This will be a strong addition to the region, bringing in millions in economic activity each year and creating new opportunities locally,” noted Kootenay Rockies MLA Pete Davis on social media.
