Notes from City Hall

Thanksgiving Day Closure and Next Council Meeting

City Hall and the Works Yard will be closed Monday, October 14 for Thanksgiving. The regular Meeting of council is rescheduled to Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. Happy Thanksgiving from all City of Kimberley staff!

Sewer Jet Cleaning Taking Place

The city will be performing the Sewer Jet Cleaning Program over the fall months. Sewer Jet Cleaning (or hydro jetting) cleans sewer pipes through the use of high-intensity water. It helps to cut through grease and debris and lessens the potential for sewer backups in the city’s main lines. City bylaws require that backwater valves be installed in order to prevent sewer backflows and any issues that may occur due to maintenance of sewer lines. A backwater valve allows water to escape from the clean out but will prevent flows or materials from backing up into a home. “Blowbacks” can occur in some homes during the sewer jet cleaning process. The installation of a backwater valve (backwater prevention device) will prevent blowbacks. A certified plumber will be able to suggest installation solutions. Please ensure that your home is protected. See more information on this program.

The 2020 Community Grant Application forms are now available on the city’s website.  The deadline to submit an application is October 15. Please note that all 2019 grant recipients must complete a final report to be considered for a 2020 Community Grant.
