$3,400 fine for failing to quarantine

On March 6, Elk Valley RCMP received information from a Provincial Health Nurse that an individual had failed to quarantine when he crossed into Canada from the United States. The individual refused to complete the mandatory COVID-19 test prior to crossing the border. For failing to obey the Quarantine Act, the individual was issued a fine in the amount of approximately $3,400, reported A/Cpl Debra Katerenchuk, “C” Watch, Watch Commander and Media Relations Officer with Elk Valley RCMP.

$2,300 fine for pub

On March 14, the owner/manager a local pub establishment in Fernie, received a fine in the $2,300 under Section 3(1), Contravention of Food and Liquor Premises Order, of the Emergency Program Act (EPA).

“Elk Valley RCMP was in attendance at the pub to ensure compliance under the EPA; however, quickly discovered that most tables had more than seven persons; some but not all persons were wearing masks; and the back deck was overflowing with patrons,” said A/Cpl Katerenchuk.
